Yeah that''s why I started using Linux. I wanted something more secure and I couldn't afford to buy a Mac. I was impressed by the security record of Open BSD, but to be honest it just seemed too awkward. So I tried Debian and stayed with it.

Oops ... WordPress apparently ate the links in my previous post. I'll try again. For the 2003 Blaster incident, see
 == http://aaxnet.com/editor/edit033.html
For Schneier's blog post, see:

I hope this one works.

Actually, this is just a copy of another Microsoft "innovation". Way back in 2003, Microsoft was using the Linux servers at Akamai to protect their microsoft.com servers from the Blaster worm:

Despite all the hype, I haven't seen any evidence that Windows security has improved much.

On a related note, Bruce Schneier has a note on his blog that the US Army is starting to use more Macintosh machines for security reasons:

Maybe they'll figure out some day that they can get the same benefits for free using Linux -- even in the land of $700 toilet seats.

This is too funny. The thought of someone buying a linux computer to plug into their windows box to babysit it and keep it safe is insane. When will people learn you don't have to keep flushing money down the drain trying to protect your insecure windows computer and can just run Linux and be done with it. Great find...thank for the post!
