Earlier I wrote about Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala planning to offer a greater and more diverse set of wallpapers. Now that a little more time has passed, here are some of the most promising wallpapers for Ubuntu 9.10:

This is a very attractive wallpaper, largely due to the contrast between the foreground and the background. Hopefully, this would be distributed in two versions, one without some of the distracting background options.

Title: Tranquil Aspiration

Though this might be more appropriate n the abstract section, it looks very cool. It  provides a refreshing change from some of the previous abstract wallpaper Ubuntu has used, while still not being overly distracting.

This is obviously not an entirely finished wallpaper; it is an interesting concept. It looks more default-ish than most of the wallpapers on the abstract page, but those are just the details. The art itself is quite promising.

Ubuntu fan big time! Now Brazil to convert to Ubuntu – government and all! Cite openness of code the reason! They can see who is looking into the systems, alter things to suit themselves – no more secrecy in programming, no more cuckolding programmers skills, markets! G d help us America! Patenting languages! What’s next? Taxing pis? Shiite? Get real or lose big-time! $Microsoft will, soon! Brown is good! Change it if you will! After all, you can! Free, like free beer! I love it!

I personally like the brown theme. It’s hard to make brown look good, which just goes to show that the artists who are making these backgrounds and are sticking with the brown tones are doing a great job. On top of that, the brown theme is familiar – I always associate warm, brown wallpapers with Ubuntu. If Ubuntu made a complete turn around and decided to go with a bright, zesty color, it would be totally out of place.

Bleh. Still ugly as ever. I have to agree with LinuxLover here. Why must Ubuntu insiste on continuing to use the most grotesque official colors.

Why not give Ubuntu something OTHER than orange and brown, probably the two ugliest colors to use in a user interface.

Of course, they’ve promised for… what… FIVE releases of Ubuntu they’d make it non-ugly, then never delivered?

Human is the UGLIEST GNOME theme I have ever seen.

Okay, so why does Ubuntu continue with the ugliness? Seriously? As popular as that distro is, you’d think they’d have made it look good by now. But, they continue with that horrible brown color. I had hopes that they’d eventually move to more orange, but they continue with one of the most hideous colors you could possibly put on a desktop. Brown looks good on furniture…not my computer screen!

What would be the point of changing the orange and brown? Everyone is going to change it to the way they like it anyhow.
