Apparently Solitare now requires hardware acceleration from the graphics card? Really, Microsoft?
The sad part is that it actually lags. It’s not just a stray dialog box, Solitare apparently actually needs hardware acceleration. I don’t know what to say.
By the way, go check out the Windows 7 RC.

How can I perform hardware acceleration for Win-7?
Hardware acceleration depends on your graphics hardware. Solitare will work fine without it, so don’t worry about it.
This is old news. Solitaire and the other included games, which are actually developed by Oberon Games, were changed back when Vista was released to use a more modern game engine that requires 3D acceleration. The is the same game engine used for “Chess Titans” to render a complete chess board and all pieces using polygons. You would have similar problems with any application that needs to create a Direct3D surface if you lack the appropriate 3D hardware, in which case software rendering is used instead.
Virtual Machines aren’t particularly speedy even when it comes to graphics. My Ubuntu install running on VirtualBox uses 32% CPU power alone just to draw the “Resources” tab on the System monitor at 1440×900 with a 1 second update interval. Even with the display driver provided by Sun. Obviously it’s unfair to compare the graphical speed of any OS on a Virtual Machine as the performance is not the same as using dedicated hardware with drivers to match.
You have defined the problem but how do I solve the problem? Is it possible for Win-7
