Ubuntu Brainstorm allows you to view the most popular ideas ever, in the last 6 months, in the last 30 days, in the last week, and in the past 24 hours. Since the new version of Brainstorm appeared, the default has been to view the most popular ideas in the last 30 days. This causes two major problems:
- New ideas don’t get any attention, since they are never shown on the front page and, thus, don’t get voted up. Instead, the top ideas are voted on more and more. Even the tiniest idea will receive hundreds of votes if it somehow manages to land on the home page. This also frequently leaves the most popular in 24 hours page empty or near empty.
- As a result of the first issue, the same ideas are featured over and over again. New ideas never get a chance to make their point.
I think that Ubuntu Brainstorm should go back to the 24 hour view as the default, as it was before the new version. This will allow more ideas to get their chance and shake up the featured ideas more.
You just can’t truly brainstorm when you are looking at the same ideas day after day.

I feel your pain. Since the submissions are so many, even the daily view by default wouldn’t help.
They really need to implement a mixed time+popularity rating system ala digg. Plus social features, like ‘friends’, so you can keep your eye on what your friend are currently looking into.
That’s the only way to sort out the mess.
And heres a little help for Yanks and Brits as well, to understand metric units:

Definitely, same goes for paper, only the US use Letter, A4 should be standard!
And WTF is up with using inches in most software, UBUNTU SHOULD USE METRIC STANDARDS!!
When you are really think of this, might Random view not be a whole lot better even? Since this truly brings you ‘new’ ideas to you by the homepage.
Or what if they both were combined? Random view of ideas submitted in the last 24hours?
Stefano – What about a partnership with Digg? That would be cool.
