A recently published Linux.com article reviews KNDISWrapper, a GUI front end to automate and assist you with the process of using NDISWrapper.

If you don’t know, NDISWrapper is a tool that is supposed to allow you to use Windows drivers for wireless cards. The problem is, it does not always work perfectly with every wireless card and it is very difficult for a new user to set up.

KNDISWrapper is designed to solve the second problem by making NIDISWrapper easier to keep up to date. Unfortunately, the review says that it falls short of this because it does not include a way of finding the correct driver.

Even if the current version does not do everything that it should, KNDISWrapper and similar projects, particularly those relating to hardware support, are very important. Without these projects, users with unsupported hardware would likely be scared away from Linux or be unbale to get things working. This way, though, newbies should eventually be able to easily get a much greater range of hardware working, leading to a much more positive view of Linux.
