When Ubuntu Netbook Remix was first announced, I was not at all sure what kind of adoption it would see. It was almost guaranteed to show up in some smaller netbooks, and it has shown up in the Sylvania G, but would it be adopted beyond that?

The Netbook Remix is still fairly new, but I think it is fairly safe to say the answer is yes. Dell and Toshiba have both announced or shipped netbooks with Ubuntu. (In the case of the recently announced Toshiba NB100, we only know it will ship with Ubuntu, but I would guess that this means Ubuntu Netbook Remix.) Both of these netbooks are almost guaranteed to be high profile netbooks, due to the size of the companies behind them.

In addition to gaining these two major manufacturers, Ubuntu Netbook Remix also received very positive feedback on the Dell Inspiron Mini.

These two factors combined with Canonical’s influence seem to give Ubuntu Netbook Remix a very good chance of success. This is good news, since the Netbook Remix seems to have been much better recieved than other netbook distros. Canonical does need to watch out, though. More and more people are joining the netbook software game, and the competition is going to get tougher.
