Brilliant Brainstorms is a weekly-ish summary of some of the best/most interesting brainstorms from the Ubuntu Brainstorm site.

Not All Good

Adding in advanced user features to the desktop is exactly the opposite of what should be done. Plus, any user who would need to use a run application dialog can simply press Alt+F2.

Really Brilliant

In order to make sure everyone is happy with the new theme, I think voting on it would be a great idea. The art team would have to be in charge of approving a limited number of themes, perhaps somewhere between 5 and 20. Beyond that, it should be up to the users to decide which theme or themes make it into the release.
While most users might ignore this at first, eventually, being able to see at a glance something about each applications, such as the download progress or the number of messages in your inbox, would become very useful.
Developers should not be burdened by having to get approval for anything they want to do, but when a feature is being considered, it should be proposed on Brainstorm to see what the users think.
Somehow, I think I talked about this before but oh well. Anyway, an easy way to check if your hardware is compatible before committing to using Ubuntu, would help new users when they first try out Ubuntu.
